ARCHITECTURE  INTERIOR DESIGN 

I think of myself as a designer of experiences. Design, for me, is the art of integrating elements of nature with materials invented by man, to create spaces that inspire living. With this vision, I founded Gautam Desai Design in 2010.

 

I was working in New York City as a Preservation Architect at the time, after having graduated from the University of Michigan with a Masters degree in Architecture. These formative years of my experience in the Big Apple were the richest in terms of exposure — to design thinking, to design styles and most critically, to people from all over the world and their life-stories.

 

With an inspiration to contribute to the vibrant design movement that was transforming the Indian landscape, I moved back to Mumbai in 2010 to set up Gautam Desai Design.

 

The journey began with a commission from the Archeological Survey of India to map Pitalkhora Caves — a Buddhist rock-cut site dating back to 2nd century BC! A truly humbling start, given the oldest site I had worked-on before was not more than a hundred and fifty years old!

 

This remarkable journey continues and it’s been a learning experience for me every single day. Over the last 10 years, we have been fortunate to execute projects spanning modern, fusion and traditional experiences across living and commercial spaces. Our work has taken my design studio to diverse destinations including San Francisco, Colombo, Gold Coast and the Middle East. We have been fortunate to gain recognition for some of our marquee work in form of international awards and publications.

 

At Gautam Desai Design, we believe the design experience is as important as the final creation. Client centricity remains at the heart of our operating philosophy and we ensure that our exceptional design ideas are executed through close client collaboration and rigorous project management.
